About this place
At Kosyu Ichiba, wontons take centre stage, while your choice of noodles and soup lets you adjust how substantial the meal feels. The signature Guangzhou-style pork-juice wonton noodles pair juicy wontons with thin noodles and a light clear soup; you can choose salt or soy sauce, though the menu recommends the salt flavour. One diner praised the way the thin noodles went with the salty broth and described the wontons as smooth and tender. Starting with this classic combination is a good way to get to know the menu.
For a meatier bowl, try the coarsely minced pork-juice wonton noodles, made with medium-thick noodles and a rich shang-tang soup. Choose salt or soy sauce. A diner who ordered this at lunch with braised pork rice recalled that the generous amount of coarsely minced meat made for a hearty meal, and that the rich soup clung well to the noodles. Other options include a bowl with two kinds of wontons—pork and prawn—and whole-prawn wonton noodles, with two prawns in each wonton. The different fillings offer another way to choose.
If you would rather focus on the wontons, the noodle-free Guangzhou-style pork-juice wonton soup comes with 12 wontons. One diner had it in a salt-flavoured broth with 12 wontons, and enjoyed mixing in different table condiments, including sweet-and-sour onion sauce and ginger sauce. Try adding a little sauce to each wonton on your soup spoon for a changing flavour with every bite.
Rice sets make it easy to put together a more substantial meal at lunch or in the evening. The lunch wonton-noodle-and-rice set pairs noodles with 7 wontons and a choice of braised pork rice, takana mustard-green rice or mapo rice; a similar set is available at dinner. There are also combinations of mini wonton noodles, with half a portion of noodles, and mini rice, as well as sets with rice and 12 wontons but no noodles. That range makes it easier to choose a portion to suit your appetite.
The meal need not stop at noodles: small plates add another dimension to the menu. These include negi-shio chicken and coriander salad, both exclusive to the Nakameguro branch, as well as leafy greens finished with oyster sauce. You can also keep things light with a small plate alongside a beer or a Shaoxing highball.
